The above image shows the quarry site for the hotel, and the below image an image of what the hotel should look like once complete.
The entire hotel is to be covered in a green roof, while the building will use geothermal energy for it’s electrical supply and heating. The quarry will also provide a good source of heat control and shelter from the environment. The hotel has 19 storeys, 17 of which are below the ground level with two underwater floors; two of the floors are above the 90-100 metre deep quarry. The abandoned quarry will be partially filled with water to create an artificial lake.
The hotel is currently in the design stage; though construction has commenced. It is expected to be ready in 2015. This is to be the project of engineering company, Atkins
